Acute inflammation is necessary!

However, chronic inflammation or congestion at a cellular or systemic level is at the root cause of every disease from eczema to cancer.

If we eat pro-inflammatory food, namely, sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oil, we are promoting a state of inflammation.

In both acute and chronic inflammation white blood cell count (WBC) increases as a part of the immune response to put out the fire. As WBC count goes up so does collagenase, an enzyme that breaks down collagen. This is bad as collagen is the most abundant protein in our body and we want it to be healthy for our body to function well.

What Does This Mean For You?

If we chose to eat or feed our children a lot of food out of a bag or packet that has a shelf life (great for business but not for our morphology) we create an inflammatory environment and open ourselves up to a host of soft tissue injuries and a world of dis-ease.

TIP: Next time you are at the doctors for an annual check up, ask to test your C-Reactive Protein (CRP) as this is a marker for systemic inflammation and can be a useful measure overtime of chronic inflammation.
